I finally got to meet Linda Flores-Tober in person. She is the Executive Director of the Elizabeth Coalition to House the Homeless. She is one of those generous local heroes who dedicates her life to helping others. Linda and her team of guardian angels help homeless people navigate the bureaucracy that separates them from a roof over their heads. They help fight for better laws and even lead the construction of affordable housing and emergency shelter. They help homeless kids do better in school by running an after school program. They pick up the kids from school and bring them to the coalition to do their homework, and they also help families find most needed healthcare.
We have already decided that Giving Tuesday 2020 will once again support the Coalition.
Back in December, Linda shared:
' Said a homeless man to me: “Miss Linda, when you are homeless people act like you are invisible. They don’t look at you, they don’t acknowledge your presence. It makes you feel like you don’t exist” . We are so grateful to South Mountain Bees for this donation, because receiving a special nice smelling handcrafted soap makes you feel good. And the first step from the streets is to be acknowledged as a person of value and to feel good. Thank you to South Mountain Bees.'
I was moved by this testimonial, and I wanted to support the Coalition in its mission. Thanks to the generosity of our clients, we were able to donate soaps to the families in the program. Linda mentioned that the new Operation Warm Heart includes the opportunity to shower daily at the local YMCA, and the soaps are the perfect complement.
I take my daily shower for granted. Don’t you?
For the homeless the most basic needs remain unmet. Please support the Coalition in eradicating homelessness.
